Air Suspension Systems | Six Common Flaws in Substandard Air Suspension Systems – How Many Do You Recognise?
Time:

Today, air suspension systems are increasingly common in high-end vehicles. When selecting an air suspension system, owners must exercise caution to avoid inferior products, as substandard air suspensions can introduce a range of driving risks and safety hazards. Below, we outline the six most common issues associated with low-quality air suspension systems. Let's take a look!

1.Premature fracture of the guide arm

Low-quality air suspension guide arms are typically manufactured using conventional leaf spring production techniques. The raw materials lack sufficient toughness and strength, resulting in unstable forming and localized stress concentration. Under moderately complex operating conditions, these components often fracture within 2 to 3 months. Once a guide arm breaks, the axle and air suspension may shift rearward or sway. In severe cases, this can lead to axle failure, wheel fly-off, rollover, and other catastrophic driving accidents.

2.Front bracket deformation or cracking

The substandard front suspension bracket features an ill-designed structure with inadequate strength. Under complex operating conditions, forces generated by the shock absorber during movement are transmitted to the front bracket. Within 2 to 3 months, the bracket may deform or crack. In severe cases, this can lead to axle breakage, wheel fly-off, vehicle rollover, and other serious traffic accidents.

3.Premature wear or failure of the bushing

The bushings are located at the critical connection between the front strut and the guide arm. Inferior air suspension bushings exhibit poor quality and wear excessively fast, failing after only 3 to 4 months of use. This failure leads to issues such as air spring swaying and misalignment, strut cracking, frame weld seam cracking, axle housing cracking, tire wear, and body tilt.

4.Premature failure or malfunction of shock absorbers

If shock absorbers fail to meet quality standards or if their damping values are mismatched with the strength of the guide arms, oil leakage and loosening may occur within 3 to 4 months of use. After approximately 6 months, they will become ineffective. Once ineffective, the air springs may tear and rupture due to excessive travel during movement. The vehicle will lose its shock absorption capability, leading to shaking and tail sway. This can ultimately cause cracks in the vehicle chassis or the mounted tank body.

5.Airbag rupture or failure

Substandard air suspension bladders may exhibit cracking, displacement, separation between the bladder skin and base, or deformation and damage to the base after 4 to 5 months of use. This can cause the air suspension to fail, resulting in loss of shock absorption. The vehicle may then experience body roll, vibration, and tail sway. In severe cases, this can lead to serious accidents such as vehicle rollover, axle breakage, or wheel detachment.

6.American air suspension Main beam cracked, bushings damaged

American air suspension systems feature extremely rigid main beams, with all shock-absorbing elastic deformation provided by large rubber bushings. When subjected to moderately complex operating conditions, these systems may experience main beam fractures, major bushing damage, or weld seam cracking at the main beam-to-axle weld points, leading to severe traffic accidents.

If you encounter vehicle issues caused by substandard air suspension, promptly contact the manufacturer's after-sales service department or a professional for repairs. To avoid economic losses from frequent downtime due to maintenance, choose a proven and reliable air suspension brand.
